Addressable HD Radio Receivers ("Smart Radio") Project
Developed requirements and a proof of concept for a "smart" digital radio receiver that allows the user to create a customizable listening experience. HD Radio broadcast technology can be used to send audio content, either program material or commercials that is "pre-stored" in the receiver. Time slots in the live broadcast can be replaced with pre-stored content depending on user selection.
Persona Radio Project
FM IBOC Asymmetric Sideband Transmission
Implemented and tested FM IBOC HD Radio asymmetric digital sideband broadcast configurations to enable an increasing of digital power while minimizing interference to adjacent stations. Developed transmission equipment software updates which support this new operational mode.

VHF/UHF Antennas for Integration in Mobile Devices
Designed and built prototype small antenna systems suitable for integration into a cell phone (or similar device) which operates over FM band (88-108 MHz) and TV band (54-88 MHz, 174-216 MHz, 470-698 MHz) frequencies, and suitable for reception of FM radio (analog and/or HD Radio digital for FM band) and ATSC mobile digital TV (DTV) signals.

AM Low-rate Data Service Using IBOC Subcarriers
Investigated and developed a proof of concept for low-rate data service for AM radio stations. The service would utilize a small number of IBOC subcarriers to provide a data capability similar to RDS for FM (but no digital audio). An IBOC receiver would be required to access this new data service.
